Meet the Consortium series: Fondazione Bruno Kessler

Meet the Swarmchestrate partners: Fondazione Bruno Kessler

The Bruno Kessler Foundation (Fondazione Bruno Kessler – FBK) is a multidisciplinary research institution founded in 1962 in Trento, Italy, specializing in technology, innovation, the humanities and social sciences. Its mission is to promote and contribute to the advancement of knowledge with a focus on the fields of science and technology which allow for greater and more immediate economic and social impact.

What is FBK role in the project?

FBK contribution to Swarmchestrate will be two-fold; on the one hand, FBK will be tasked with the development of AI-based approaches for the optimization of initial and run-time task placement; on the other hand, FBK will act as a facilitator for demonstration activities, bringing on their expertise in Federated Learning and AI at the edge.

Why is this project important for FBK?

Swarmchestrate offers a unique opportunity to FBK to bring their background and already accumulated knowledge in the domains of Machine Learning and AI, closer to the challenges of the Cloud/Edge Continuum. In the context of this project, FBK shall explore the opportunities and research challenges presented and interact with other project partners in this unique domain.

Who are the key people involved?

The FBK team comprises of both senior and junior researchers from three scientific units at FBK: Deep Visual Learning (DVL), Energy Efficient Embedded Digital Architectures (E3DA) and the Speech Technology Lab (Speech Tek). Active participants include Alessio Brutti, Elisabetta Farella, Amy Murphy, Elisa Ricci and Yiming Wang. Additional junior researchers will join as the project progresses.
