SZTAKI

Meet the project coordinator of Swarmchestrate: SZTAKI

HUN-REN SZTAKI (HUN-REN Institute for Computer Science and Control), founded in 1964 and governed by the Hungarian Research Network (HUN-REN), is one of the largest IT research institutes in the Central European region with 300+ full-time employees.
SZTAKI performs basic and application-oriented research in an interdisciplinary setting in the fields of computer science, engineering, information technology, data science, intelligent systems, process control, networking, and multimedia. Contract-based target research, development, training, and expert support for domestic and foreign industrial, governmental and other partners are important activities at the Institute. SZTAKI is keen on networking, whether it is cooperation with Hungarian SMEs or the adoption of international best practices. The Institute is involved in several European and Hungarian projects and aims to ensure that the results of these collaborations can be used by Hungarian economic actors.

What is SZTAKI role in the project?

SZTAKI is the project coordinator of Swarmchestrate. Besides this role, SZTAKI leads the “System Design, Demonstrator Specification and Simulation” and the “System Integration, Demonstrator Development and Digital Twin” Work Packages, while contributing to a number of other WPs.

Why is this project important for SZTAKI?

One of SZTAKI’s main goals is to bridge the gap between new application areas and state-of-the-art digital infrastructures. This project provides the opportunity to explore fundamentally new application management approaches to implement a novel decentralised application-level orchestrator supporting several innovative use cases.

Who are the key people involved?

Robert Lovas is responsible for the overall coordination of the project. He has extensive experience in a wide range of research and development projects, while having a scientific and technical background. He has contributed to 100+ scientific publications on Grid, Cloud, Big Data and AI platforms. József Kovács, a senior researcher, is a key member of the orchestration team.
