Hacı İsmail Aslan represented the TU Berlin team (Odej Kao, Joel Witzke, Mahmudul Haque) and the Swarmchestrate project during the 23rd International Conference on Service-Oriented Computing which took place in Shenzhen, China, on 1-4 December 2025.
İsmail presented the paper “QONNECT: A QoS-Aware Orchestration System for Distributed Kubernetes Clusters”; QONNECT is a distributed testbed orchestrator which uses the notion of logical proximity for cluster selection, with the consideration of service availability and robustness. The TU Berlin team also wrote a separate paper to introduce the artifacts of the aforementioned QONNECT system.
In the evaluation across nine cloud–fog–edge clusters, QONNECT handled dynamic placement, automated failover, QoS-driven rescheduling, and leader re-election without manual intervention 🔄🤖. The result is a step toward treating the entire continuum as a single, self-optimising execution environment.
